New England Weather :: essays research papers
In the New England area, the weather is very unpredictable due to the following reasons. New England sits right in the middle of the Jet Stream, a weather pattern that remains fairly consistent as it guides the weather for the entire United States. To the north of the Jet Stream, you have very cold Arctic air, and to the south of it, you have the warm moist Gulf air. These two factors help to create a very unstable atmosphere that can change the forecast of the weather at anytime. à à à à à Many New England states lie along bodies of water. This can also create an irregular weather environment because the warm air off the water can turn snow to rain in the winter, and a warm sunny day to a very chilly one in the summer. Elevation can also become a problem with weather forecasters due to the fact that the elevations of the New England states are all different. So at any one time, it can be snowing in New Hampshire, Raining in Massachusetts, cloudy in Rhode Island and Foggy in Connecticut. The randomness of such weather is the reason why, in New England if you do not like the weather outside, wait Five minutes and it will changeâ⬠¦ do not like the weather outside, wait Five minutes and it will changeâ⬠¦ do not like the weather outside, wait Five minutes and it will changeâ⬠¦ do not like the weather outside, wait Five minutes and it will changeâ⬠¦ do not like the weather outside, wait Five minutes and it will changeâ⬠¦ do not like the weather outside, wait Five minutes and it will changeâ⬠¦ do not like the weather outside, wait Five minutes and it will changeâ⬠¦ do not like the weather outside, wait Five minutes and it will changeâ⬠¦

The Atrocity of Saul Alinskys Utilitarian Approach to Communcation Ess
The Atrocity of Saul Alinsky's Utilitarian Approach to Communcation Jeremy Bentham, one of the founders of Utilitarianism, believed his philosophy could provide for the ââ¬Å"greatest happiness of the greatest number of peopleâ⬠. However benign it may sound, at the heart of Utilitarianism is a cold, teleological process which reduces happiness to a mere commodity. It is even worse that Saul Alinsky would extend this philosophy to a point where the truth becomes relative, justice becomes a tool of those powerful enough to wield it, and any means are justified to reach oneââ¬â¢s desired ends. Utilitarianismââ¬â¢s focus on outcomes inevitably leads to a lack of concern with the means used to accomplish a given outcome. This allows for a process in which the rules of conduct are vague, open to interpretation, and less important than oneââ¬â¢s objective. This lack of absolute standards clearly violates several key standards of Martin Buberââ¬â¢s Dialogic values, which I believe are essential to ethical communication. These standards stress the importance of the authenticity and honesty of oneââ¬â¢s me...

Personal Statement: Graduate school program in teaching at the secondary level Essay
I believe I am more than qualified to be admitted to the secondary education program of the Graduate school as I possess the needed knowledge, talents, skills, and most of all, attitude that would help me become successful in my profession. I firmly believe that teaching is the right career for me because I find joy in seeing people, particularly the youth, grow using the lessons and values I have taught them. For me, one of the greatest pleasures in life is to see my students transform into intellectual, highly-versatile, and law-abiding citizens who would make an impact on their respective careers and who would contribute greatly to society in general. Moreover, I am the type of person who adapts very well to pressure and difficulties. It is a well-known fact that secondary level students are very challenging to educate as they are very diverse in terms of attitude, emotions, and intellect, among others. I am more than willing and capable to meet those challenges and insurmountable obstacles that would come along my way just as long as I am able to teach my students and help them reach their dreams, what ever they may be. Most of all, I basically find enthusiasm in teaching. I believe that the knowledge, skills, and information I have acquired over the years would be useless unless I share them with others. In this regard, I realize that the best way to share what I know is through teaching which is why I am pursuing a post-graduate degree because I want to be a highly-effective teacher to my students. In short, my capabilities, my various skills, and most of all, my attitude and passion towards teaching would no doubt allow me to make an impact on my students and to equip them with all the tools and lessons they need to survive in the real world. Once accepted, I will work hard and do my best to become a well-rounded and highly adept educator who would provide students with the quality education they deserve.

LOM Assignment
ââ¬Å"Lung conditions caused by 9/11â⬠Write about the different types of lung conditions being found as a result of 9/11. We all remember the effects of this horrible day on September 11, 2001; but what we donââ¬â¢t know is the effects it still had on so many after the tragedy ended. When the towers of the World Trade Center collapsed it produced a dense could of smoke and vaporized concrete and drywall. New York City Fire Department rescue workers were exposed to polluted air- as well as dust and diesel exhaust that accompanied the rescues effort, this had reduced there lung function in weeks and months following the attack. Now a new study in the ââ¬Å"New England Journal of Medicineâ⬠report that the lung impairment they observed in the rescue workers appears to be lasting. Firefighters, Emergency Medical personnel continued to have decreased lung function up to seven years after 9/11. They found most of this group suffered from ââ¬Å"Chronic Bronchitis, Asthma, Lu ng Cancer, Mesothelioma, Tuberculosis, and Sarcoidosisâ⬠(especially prevalent among recovery and clean-up workers); 9/11 also exposed some people to having GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disorder) they addressed these declines with regular monitoring and aggressive treatment. In 2001 and 2002 the lung function of more than 12,000 fire fighters, rescue workers who were at Ground Zero had there lung functions measured, comparing the results to lung function tests given to the same group before 9/11 as a part as their department physicals. On average the lung function of the workers declined by an amount equivalent to twelve years of natural aging. In new studies, researchers continued to follow these fire fighters and medical personnel for an average of six years measuring there lung function every twelve to eighteen months to see if the initial decline persisted. They were surprised to find ââ¬Å"little or noâ⬠improvement in average lung function, according to the study. Th e persistent decline in lung function has potential short-term consequences, it places them at higher risk for shortness of breath, cough, wheeze and impairments in their ability to exercise and perform physically demanding jobs. A lot of these heroes are now unable to work because of these long term conditions of this horrible tragedy.

The Procrastination Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
The Procrastination - Essay Example I pulled myself together, stopped crying, and asked my counselor what it was that I could do. She told me that this late in the school year, it was almost impossible to do anything to earn that extra credit and that I must come during the summer and do an elective of some sort. Upon hearing this, I felt a couple of things simultaneously; anger, I was angry at my counselor for giving me this news so late in the school year, I mean, I had already bought my graduation dress. Furthermore, I felt frustrated and helpless that I would be spending the summer in school while my friends traveled and visited their universities and had final parties and farewells, this thought depressed me immensely. Just as I was about to get up and leave, I remembered my second cousin who had a similar dilemma before her graduation, 3 years ago. I immediately talked it out with my counselor and we decided that I would stay after school for some History classes and teach my peers who needed help. I happily taug ht my friends Ashley and Chelsea for the next 4 weeks and redeemed my counselorââ¬â¢s confidence and that one stubborn credit. Right now, when I look back at that time, I realize that it has made me who I am today. It influenced me in ways I did not understand them. Today, as the owner of a successful company, I still carry that lesson with me to this day. In addition, every time I get complacent or am tempted to procrastinate some work, I remind myself that this same procrastination almost cost me my education and career.

Week 6 Team Part Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Week 6 Team Part - Essay Example An alternative solution the company may pursue in order to increase its revenues is to expand internationally. The expansion can occur in different ways. The simplest solution that requires the least amount of resources is exporting. The main product the company sales, batteries, are a homogenous product which is needed by everyone around the world. The worldââ¬â¢s population is 6.6 billion. The combined population of America and Germany is 393 million. This data means that Larson Inc. has only been able to penetrate 6% of the marketplace. The firm may experience some economic growth if the domestic economies of Germany and the United States improve. Batteries are needed to power all electrical devices. One of the largest industries in the world is the cellular phone industry. In 2010 there is an estimated 4.7 billion cellular phone users worldwide (Plunkett Research, 2010). These phones need batteries to be powered up. There are also thousands of other types of products that util ize batteries. The extra money the company generates during an expansion can be used to develop new products or services. A second economic option for Larson Inc. is to encounter a decrease in its revenues. When a country has negative growth domestic product for two consecutive quarters it enters into a recession. During a recession a business such as Larson may experience a decline in its overall sales numbers. A strategic approach utilized by managers during a recession is to implement cost cutting initiatives. Layoffs in personnel are a short term cost cutting solution that many companies use to decrease its expenses. Investing money in more efficient equipment can lower the cost of producing goods. Typically during bad economic times managers are hesitant to invest money in capital goods. Outsourcing contracts can help companies lower its cost per unit. Workers in countries like China earn less than a tenth of what American workers make. The third economic

Artical - Article Example Individuals not familiar with the search engines might feel more comfortable by going to one place for information. In the end, the researchers proved five out of seven hypotheses. There were several flaws to this article. The first is the low amount of participants in the study. The second was the variety of the participants. All of the users of Second Life were already familiar and at ease with computers. The hypotheses put forth by the researchers could be biased the type of participants chosen for the study. A better selection of age, job occupation, computer skills, and other gender might have disproved some of the hypotheses. Until this range of participants is widen, the true value of Second Life might remain unknown. The last critique is also negative. When researching Second Life, the researchers did not consider the avatars made in Second Life might not be realistic. If an individual in the fasion business New York is dealing with an auction house in Paris, they might want to reduce their weight or make themselves more attractive. Also the laws governing cyberspace are slow to catch up with real live laws. Deceptive advertising or business practice would be hard to prosecute. Avatars should never replace human interaction. Second Life is operated in many countries. It would be impossible to enforce any law on this group. These subjects should be addressed in further
